Fresh Eyes on a Beautiful Past: Art Deco Contest Winners

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Art Deco, ADSNY invited students across NYC to participate in a citywide contest to reimagine neighborhoods through the lens of Art Deco. Special thanks to the educators and students from New York's High School of Art and Design for their help in creating and spreading the word about the Competition. In the Design Reimagination Category students were asked to:

  • Choose a local building or city structure that is part of your everyday life or in need of redesign.

  • Reimagine this structure using Art Deco inspiration.

  • Include artists or architects who influenced your design.

  • Submit detailed drawings and a written statement explaining your design choices and the use of Art Deco design elements.​

  • In the Photography Category students were asked to:

  • Capture photos that reflect your understanding of Art Deco in your neighborhood.

  • Create a photo essay that illustrates how Art Deco influences your surroundings and your personal interpretation.

  • Minimum of 5 photos with captions.

  • Write a 150-word statement explaining what Art Deco means to you and the significance of your captured images.
