Designing this piece required me to have lots of research on different Art Deco buildings, making sure that I have successfully incorporated the main elements of the style. An architect that has inspired me is William Van Alen, who designed the Chrysler building. The Chrysler building has been a big inspiration for me because of how unique the pattern and form of the building is. This led to this original piece I have created, which has repeating patterns, one of the main elements of Art Deco style architecture. The repeated pattern includes geometric shapes, especially in the windows; the upper level of the building has windows in triangular shapes repeatingly. The lower levels have rectangular windows, also following a repeating pattern. As the overall form is taken into consideration, it is really important for an Art Deco style building to be symmetrical, this helps the building look organized, and very balanced. So this piece has symmetrical patterns on all sides, all four sides have the same amount of floors, same repeating patterns of geometric shapes. Last but not least, the difference in base and top. Most buildings in Art Deco style have a wide base, but narrow top. This is also a very important element taking into consideration of the overall form.
